Last 21st February was held the first Radici’s event: a “Business Supper Club”– format dedicated to Trade – organized at the Fusciardi’s restaurant for the Piedmontese winery “Poderi Moretti”.
Poderi Moretti: discover the winery
Poderi Moretti is the result of the Moretti and Occhetti families union, whose always worked together for the care of their territory: Monteu Roero. The company has deep roots – like their vines – and has been recognized as an Historical Company of Italy.
Moretti and Occhetti families have been cultivating the land since the early 1600s handing down their knowledge and passing their values from generation to generation. It is actualy managed by Francesco Moretti and his children, Alessandra and Riccardo, whose take care of the 40 hectares of the farm with the utmost respect for nature and the environment that surrounds them.
Those who participated in the Business Supper club had the pleasure of meeting Alessandra, who told brilliantly the company and the wines produced by it.
The Territory
Roero area, known as Bassa Langa or Langa Roerina, is located on the left of the Tanaro river: a territory characterized by gentle and fertile hills with castles, towers, ancient villages and churches stand on the top. Hills with quilted slopes of vineyards, orchards and woodlands, between whose slopes there are deep inlets called “Rocche del Roero”.
These are the result of a geological phenomenon of erosion caused by the Tanaro, before it diverted its course due to seismic phenomena and landslides about 200.000 years ago.
Roero has a marine origin, formed by the sedimentation of debris of various lithological origin about 2-3 million years ago.
Vineyards and Varieties
Poderi Moretti’s vineyards are located on different hills of the Langa and Roero area, characterized by different kind of soils and exposures that give different tastes and aromas to each wine.
Their largest vineyards are located in the CRU “San Michele” of Santo Stefano Roero village, “Occhetti” of Monteu Roero village and “Trinità” of Govone village, but they also cultivate smaller vineyards located in many other hills of the area.
Poderi Moretti only grow native varieties of the area, such as Nebbiolo, Arneis, Barbera and Dolcetto.
Wine production: a compromise between tradition and innovation
Poderi Moretti produces wine in a traditional way taking care of the wine tradition of the area, using also some innovative winemaking techniques to enhance the quality of their wines. All Poderi Moretti wines mature for a period – depending on the type of wine – in steel “sur lies” or in oak barrels.
The sustainability is an important part of the Poderi Moretti’s philosophy, whose always using sustainable agricultural techniques and as natural as possible products in both countryside and cellar.
The production take place in two different buildings of the farm, historically belonging to the family, both located in the Occhetti CRU of Monteu Roero. In Cascina Occhetti there are the winemaking rooms and the barrels cellar, while in the Cascina Moretti there are the offices, the tasting room, a second barrel cellar and the pupitres room for the classic method sparkling wine.
